A real-life story of what every new Copywriter struggles with

It’s really interesting that when I ask potential Copywriters what their major roadblock to getting started with copywriting is, the replies are all very similar.

Here’s a case in point from an email I received earlier this week in response to asking that very question.

My #1 roadblock with copywriting?  -  I have read a lot and have even taken some courses but never taken the first step. I am occupied with a full-time job. Sometimes it feels like an insurmountable task. Plus I sometimes feel that I'm not qualified enough.

This is the same kind of feedback I get time after time - lifted directly from the email.

And you know what, it can be tough at the start - no question.

No amount of me telling you to take a course, get testimonials, get some writing samples is going to help if you find yourself in this situation.

In this case Peter (name changed) has taken courses but still finds himself stuck.

Does any of this sound familiar, I’m sure it does?

And it all got me to thinking, what more can I do to help you guys get past your roadblocks and make your first dollar as a paid Copywriter?

Because once you’ve made that first dollar something magical happens - you start to believe in yourself.

The beauty of the first $

It’s that simple, you start to believe you can actually make (at least some) money from Copywriting, and that’s a HUGE turning point for most Copywriters.

It’s like that crack in the dam wall that, with enough pressure (effort from you), can turn into an unstoppable flood.

Think about something you do well now. Maybe it’s driving, maybe it’s running, maybe it’s working out at the gym, maybe it’s something else. You couldn’t always do whatever it is, but you can now - right?

It’s no different with Copywriting.

Once you get your seating position sorted out, your mirror straight and understand what the gears do, it’s just like driving. It eventually becomes second nature, and, like Nike - you Just do it!
